Frequently Asked Questions

What is your editing style?

My images are adjusted to be warm and natural. To achieve this, cooler tones are brought down and images are lightened.

I am not one to perfectly smooth out skin. Yes, I’ll still remove acne or decrease redness, but I certainly don’t want to alter the texture that makes up who you are- these details are beautiful and organic.

How do I prepare baby for a newborn session?

I would ask that baby avoid napping right before our session, as the goal is to have them sleep through it. If possible, feed baby around my arrival time or while I’m setting up. This helps keep baby content for a longer period of time while shooting.

Do you send raw images?

No, personally I do not give out any raw image files. Editing is a major component of photography and I want to give you the best images possible. This means adjusting colours, lighting, and selecting only the best photos to share.

What is your turn around time (a.k.a. how long till we get our photos)?

You can expect to receive your images roughly 2 weeks after our session together. This allows me enough time to cull, edit and deliver the most beautiful product to you.

What is the difference between the lifestyle and full newborn sessions?

A lifestyle session is a casual session to capture all the sweet moments with you and your new babe. I will join your family for a few hours of your day in your own home (or outdoors). During the session, I’ll give poses and prompts, as well as capture impromptu moments. When photographing baby on their own, I do not bring my posing equipment, but instead use a crib, couch or bed for a comfortable, homey feel (I may bring along a prop basket if requested).

The full and mini newborn sessions are designed just for baby. They offer a different feel as baby is being posed in front of backdrops and in baskets. This session offers a variety of shots that capture baby’s details during the stage they are in. The full session also includes sibling shots if requested, which can be done in a lifestyle setting.

What can I expect during a newborn session?

Newborn sessions are typically held in your home, unless otherwise requested (outside is also a great option). Upon meeting you, I’ll trek a few loads of equipment into your living room to set up. Once I’m ready, feel free to stay and watch or simply be present around the house. I will wrap, pose and photograph baby for the next while. If baby is fussy, you are always welcome to feed or assist baby however needed- this is why we set aside 3 hours for each session. I do not do naked poses so baby may also need to be changed during our time together (I’m happy to do this if wipes and a fresh diaper are provided- sweet bonus right?!)

How should I dress my family for our session?

I LOVE this question. First off, dress in whatever makes you feel comfortable- I want you to be authentically you! I tell my clients to stay away from matching clothes (a.k.a. placing everyone in jeans and the same colour shirt). This doesn’t give enough variety and can often look awkward… Instead, pick a colour palette and dress within it. I recommend neutrals and earth tones as they fit my editing style beautifully.
